District 3 Activity Report

Bill Shelly, Business Agent

St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Herkimer and Lewis Counties

Spring 2007

With spring in sight, I would like to remind everyone to make sure you have all of your certification and licenses updated (HAZMAT, OSHA, Forklift, etc.), if you have a CDL, check to see if your physical also needs to be updated.

Please make sure that our Syracuse office (492-1752) has any new phone numbers or your new address, if you have moved. Without this information we will not be able to contact you with a job referral. If in doubt, call to make sure your pertinent information is current.

We have been working hard to get the PLA in place for the St. Lawrence County Jail project. The bids were opened in February with J.E. Sheehan being low bidder on the site work and in January the bids were opened on the SUNY Canton athletic fields project with Murnane low bidder. Just recently J.E. Sheehan was also low bidder on the Potsdam Central School site work package with a bid over 5 million dollars. So it looks like our contractors are off to a good start. I’m still trying to find out more on the St. Lawrence River work that will take place this summer. There is also a lot of school work coming out for bid and five or six water and sewer projects in our area. We are looking forward to these projects being bid in late spring or early summer. Don’t forget our District 3 meeting at the Best Western in Canton on Thursday, April 19, at 8 P.M. Please plan on attending to hear what’s going on throughout the Local and to find out more about future jobs in the North Country and it’s always nice to see members who you have not seen all winter.

I hope everyone has had a healthy and safe winter, looking forward to seeing you in Canton in April. (contact: 315-265-2706)
